Jack and Jill:  not just for rhyming anymore!!

:

The Early Intervention programs, 4k and/or  Kindergarten  programs that I serve typically do a rhyming unit, "Jack and Jill" unit or other nursery rhyme thematic unit.  I love the Jack and Jill rhyme because it's full of  raw material for working on not just rhyming, but also language and speech too!!  Opportunities abound to work on pronouns he/she and other language structure goals, body parts, concepts, vocabulary, sequencing, articulation etc!!  Our Early Childhood teacher gets out the plastic steps and a  plastic pail and  the children roleplay being Jack and Jill going "up" and "down" the hill.   Here's the cover of the Jack and Jill unit that I developed for working on speech, rhyming and multiple language skills.

Sometimes it's a challenge to find an articulation activity that correlate with the classroom themes or curriculums so I included  an open-ended speech game that goes with this theme too!  I'm excited to share this with you!  I used "Melonheadz Illustrating" Jack and Jill clip art.
Simply print,  laminate and tape this to an empty pail or file folder.  Have your students put their articulation cards in the "pail" as they practice them.  Or, try this for a twist:  tell the child Jack and Jill' pail is empty!   "Oh no!"    Have them fill it back up using the following water droplets as they say their articulation  words.
If you think of other speech and language activities that correlate with the Jack and Jill rhyme or other nursery rhymes, please share in the comments section!  I'd love to hear them!
